Khalifa International Stadium is also is known as the National Stadium of Qatar. It is a multi-purpose stadium in Doha. The stadium is named after the former Emir of Qatar, Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani.

This 40,000 seating capacity stadium welcomed the Gulf Cup, Asian Games, the AFC Asian Cup, and many more sports events.  It is the home ground to the Qatar national football team. After three years of the makeover the stadium is ready to welcome 2022 FIFA World Cup. The stadium will witness few quarter-final matches of the quadrennial event.

In 2017 Qatar celebrated the reopening of its most spectacular stadium by hosting the final of Emir Cup.

Renovation of Khalifa International Stadium

Renovation for the stadium began in 2014 and reopening was in 2017. In between these years, the engineers did their best to makes it the world’s most attractive sports complex.
The cooling technology at Khalifa International Stadium makes it the largest open-air stadium in the world. Further, the stadium lowers energy consumption and offers fans as well as players alike comfortable environment regardless of the heat outside.

With eye-catching style and marvelous lighting, Khalifa Stadium has set a new benchmark for architectural possibilities in the sports arena. It is equipped with many advanced technologies that benefits players and viewers in many ways.

Famous Matches Hosted By This Stadium

In the year 1997, Qatar Athletic Super Grand Prix, the annual track and field event, was held in this stadium. Now, it is a part of the IAAF Diamond League. Further, this league also hosted by Khalifa International Stadium.

In 2006 the Asian Games have held in this stadium. On 14 November 2009, the stadium hosted international football match between Brazil and England.

The stadium was used mostly for Football matches before its renovation, but it includes facilities for many other sports like track and field events.

As Khalifa International Stadium was already a hosted international event, its environmental impact was minimum. The main focus during the renovation was on its capacity and advanced facilities. By the use of latest technology, it will become a more environmentally friendly venue for the 2022 games.
